I needed a boat rack for to carry the cannoe on an upcoming camping trip on the long weekend and threw this together. When we get back, I'll be adding more too it, I just have to much other stuff to get done before we leave. The additions I'm planning to add are end caps, supports, bolt holes and some braces that will hold it 90 degrees to the box. The horizontal tubing was too short (by two inches ), so I had to lengthen it. No big deal!

Reply:Nice job!I made mine with a rail that runs about 6" high from the front to the rear.At both ends of the rail I made pockets (just behind the front rack and in the rear) so that I could remove the rear rack and store it in the front. It is very helpful when loading a quad or snow machine on the truck. It's probably saved me a few bruises to my forehead. I haul firewood as well and put some expanded metal in the front to protect my rear window. Not nit-picking ... just tossing a few possibilities out there.
Reply:Thanks for the comments!I ended up having to cut about 3 1/2" off the legs on the rack to get it too work properly (to get the cannoe onto an angle; it was resting on the roof of the cab!), but she does the job! We're heading out tomorrow morning-ish.When we get back, I'll work on it some more. Last edited by mb_welder; 07-31-2009 at 03:00 AM.
