my name is Jason and I have seriously considering changing my career. I am an electrician now but would like to pursue a welding career, and I need some help. Should I go for TIG, or MIG. I'm about to start going to a welding school(weld tech) and the school teaches both. I have always wanted to get in to TIG welding but haven't had the opportunity too. So I was wondering If you had some advice for me? Thanks for listening...
Reply:Learn to be good at all processes. David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:On the Gulf Coast, a Tig Root and Mig Fill and Cap man is at the top of the heep in recognation and in $;s. This is what most of the pipe fabricators look for and are in demand. John SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :

Reply:I love being a journeyman electrician and a journeyman weldor. They are trades that don't SEEM to have much in common, but I constatly use skills from one to do something in the other. As mentioned, learn ALL the processes. But a machine and master it, then buy a bigger one. Just do it and don't look back!

Reply:3 years ago 10% of my income came from welding, 90% from being a mechanic. Now its 50%. Yeah, I love welding.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:a tid-bit of advice ( based on my own experience... ) if you want to tackle TIG... learn to oxyfuel weld first. same basic principle... except you're using an electric 'flame' instead of a gas flame. and more control.
