Hi, I'm a newbie here and have a Weldanpower 225 ,Code 8927, w/Briggs 16 hp. My Dad had this machine and I would like to use it for backup AC power. He passed from Alzheimer's recently and had been fooling around with this machine. In his confused state, he took all the wires off the switch terminals of both the Run/Stop and Idler Switch . I would like to know if anyone has a diagram of what wires go on the terminals top to bottom. I have the IM-308 diagram but can't seem to figure what numbered wires go where .Don't want to try to start it until these wires are in the right spots. Thanks in advance
Reply:Using the wiring diagram in the mentioned manual, you may have to trace wires to individual components to identify the circuits if the wire numbers can't be read.As for the switch terminals, the center terminals are "COMMON" and the terminals on the bottom connect to the common with the switch up and the terminals on the top connect to common with the switch in the down position.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thanks for your quick reply Duane. Am I correct that the idler switch is in the High position where the diagram shows it closed? I  get what your saying as to which terminals do what in regard to switch position. I'll try tomorrow to put it together.Last edited by paint52; 10-01-2011 at 08:51 PM.
Reply:Sorry I took so long to get back-been called back to work last 2 weeks. I put a new switch in place because it must have been what my Dad was trying to do before he became sick. I cannot get the flashing circuit to energize the machine. It will only generate power after a manual flash. Have checked the output from the AC alternator - 12.6 volts .Fuse is good, flashing diode tests good, replaced the bridge rectifier. (Duane spoke of  needing 12v across the + and - on rectifier on another post so I replaced it but still no reading there?)  Have 26 volts AC on 219 at and through the fine current rheostat. Also no auto idle when it was generating, however I believe idler solenoid may be junk . Thanks for your input.
Reply:Hi, Update on this post- in preparing to wire the machine for a 230v cord to the house I did not have the Neutral leg connected to ground. It now energizes and auto idles as it should. Thanks to all who gave me help.
Reply:Well that'll do it for sure.  Leaves half the sensing circuit out of the picture. Thanks for reporting back on your findings and fix. Reply:Well, you've done very well.Everyday is a beautiful day.
Reply:Latest update- We ran all night here in NH during the last storm but it lost output the next day. There is no continuity between the slip rings so I think the rotor is toast. I'm done playing with this rig. If anyone is in the NH area and needs one for parts I would let it go cheap as the Briggs is in excellent condition. It's on a nice 3 wheel cart that rolls easily
Reply:Thinking out loud here- will a replacement generator head fit the tapered shaft of the Briggs?
Reply:I'm not prepared to say a flat "no" but a number of things would need to be for it to happen.A good thing may be that the Lincoln tapers (there were two) are relatively small diameter which would stand a better chance of being adaptable to a typical generator head rotor with a taper fit.A flexplate configuration could be possible with an crank adapter plate that could be made with the right equipment but in both cases the proper engine-to-stator housing adapter would be needed or made as well. And I apologize that I never extended my condolences in my first post on the recent passing of your father.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thanks Duane, The gen head that I have looked at has a shaft spec.code J609B, this is the link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/6500-watt-re...item483efdb27b. I keep  trying out of respect to my Dad to keep this rig alive at least in part, but alas, it may be time to just say goodbye.
Reply:I don't know what SAE code if any applies but here's the Onan crankshaft descriptions that include the two used by Lincoln (BG & BF, page 2) that at least one should apply dimensionally to the B&S.  I belive the "BG" was the most widely used.Onan Crankshaft Descriptions.pdfI misspoke regarding Lincoln using two tapers.  It is the same taper (2.25) but different crank snout lengths/details.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I found the specs on Northern Tool for J609A - http://www.northerntool.com/download...ts/1659200.pdf .This is getting interesting-  Duane, thought you might like to see my current backup generator. I believe it is a '55 - added a starter/generator some years back and installed a propane kit for dual-fuel use. The old CK is tired ,hence my work on getting the Lincoln online. Attached Images
