Hey guys Im having issues lol dunno if its me or the wire. I'm pretty good with vert up welds but ive been doing some work for a local farm here, and really having issues. He buys Lincon ultracore wire and while it will weld great in a horizontal or overhead position I for the life of me cannot get it to run vertical no matter what my settings are. Its mainly 3/4 T1 plate to a 1/2 inch MS bracket at a 45 degree angle. It really sags out horribly it impossible to get it to run a 90 vert up. Im pulling my hair out. I've tried weaving it vertically, and kinda kinda whipping it uphill with no luck. Its spattering really bad and fluttering and just makes a mess! I dont run vert up to much with dual sheild wire, but at one time i worked for another farm and they used esab 710x wire and i never had a problem with vert up it ran beautifull in all positions but that was 6 years ago maybe im out of practice?? The plates are fairly heavy on the mill scale side but even grinding it off doesnt help kinda keeps the fluttering down a little. Is it me or maybe the wire? 0.45 straight co2 gas horizontal overhead 26 volts about 345 ipm vert im lost for settings with his lincon wire, the esab wire i ran 24.5 and 305 ipmLast edited by jesusno2; 11-07-2011 at 08:45 PM.
Reply:From looking at the lincoln website it looks like some of the ultracore is intended to be used with argon blends. Make sure the wire you have is intended for straight CO2.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...2A80/c110b.pdf
Reply:Yes, C25 works good. I run ultracore .045 from 28 to 30 volts and around 420 wirespeed going uphand on steel that thick.Nice and slow going up, if you point the gun up to much you'll get lots of spatter as well as travelling to quick. But if you go too slow then it will drip. That's all we use at the mine. Also it doesn't like millscale at all, but it will handle some rust.
Reply:which variant of ultracore are you using? i use the 71C which is made for 100% C02 and find that it runs best at its lowest settings. slows everything down enough that you can keep track of the puddle and gives the slag enough time to do its job.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Yea its 71c with co2 I just cant keep it from sagging out for the life of me.
Reply:71c, I cant help you on this one. I know that FC needs the right angle and speed of gun going up hand or you get undercut or dropping of the puddle and the right setting.I would get the recommended voltage setting and adjust the wirespeed to it.good luck
Reply:run near the bottom of the range chart and move a bit faster on your weave. I personally like to dial it in to run stringers but if your going to weave you gotta move faster than you would with stick.with the dual shield you gotta have an up angle on the electrode.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches. |
