I just bought a Miller Maxstar 150 STL on eBay. I got a pretty good deal on a brand new factory fresh machine with all the goodies. I figured I would save $350 and go with the STL instead of the STH, because I don't absolutely need HF. Anyway, I am really stoked, and just wanted to share my excitement with you guys.  Now I just need to learn how to TIG... "Ask not for whom the bone bones, it bones for thee" - Bender
Reply:Silky, you will like the unit. I'll give you a simple hint for the lift start: You turn on the dial, and then set the tip down on the workpiece. To lift.... don't lift. Instead, rock the torch on its' side until the gas cup levers the tungsten off the workpiece. The arc will form easily, and you are on your way.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:You will love it! By the way glad you did not get the sth it sucks. All the HF is used for it the arc start and if you are like me you get the s**t knocked out of you all the time. I met a weld engeneer from Miller who helped design the unit and I asked him about voltage leaking from the tourch and he said dont even bother it will always get you. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:Actually the torch was brand new. The guy told me "it has a very high seeking curent and a lot of frequncy" his words not mine. I have welded with hige frequncy welding SS milk tubing and rarly if ever got shocked. Just a poor setup this said from a guy who clames he hlped design it. Steel Thunder Welding LLC.
