Well i've been welding small auto body and small fab for about 10 years now. I'm 30 years old and thought it's time to really learn how to weld. Some of the welds you guys lay on this forum are very inspiring! Just plain beautiful welds! So i'm going to the local college tomorrow to get it all going. wish me luck, guys. And i will post some pics sometime down the road.
Reply:Congrats & best of luck with that Dream. I hope you have a blast and learn all sorts of cool stuff. Im a bit jealous actually. There is a welding class at the local branch campus but its mainly just a hands on intro to the various welding processes. I took it some years ago and it was useful but I didnt really learn to weld. We never had to produce any coupons.I think that like a lot of people on this forum, I am stuck with practising on my own and soaking up whatever wisdom the experienced welders feel like sharing. Reply:Smart move.. Let us know how its going.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:keep an open mind and soak up as much knowledge as you can. Also, be sure to take advantge of all the extra time burning stuff as you can. Many students jet out as soon as the assignment is done. But if you REALLY want to get good, stick around and keep welding until the instructor kicks you out. The more time you can spend with the torch the better. Also, be sure to try out all the machines you can. Have fun and don't get frustrated. Relax and the beads will fall in place on their own.
Reply:New update! I love welding! I've been learning so much it's just awesome! I got to try some spray transfer last night and it's just too cool! When you get the machine set up just right, it hums! You can really feel the power. Anyone wanting to learn to weld should take a course at a local college. They really do offer a lot of info for the money. well worth it IMO. Anyways, i know my welds can't come close to most on this board, but here is my first spray transfer.... Attached Images
Reply:Not bad at all for the first time. I typically like to whip the mig gun a little when I spray. It helps to get a little bit of a convex bead surface, as well as help fill any minor undercutting that spray is prone to create.
