Reply:Throw it in the oven at around 300deg for a few hours.  Is it a plastic or paper spool?  300 may be too hot.    Could you spray it down with something like carb cleaner that will evaporate and displace the water?Dan

Reply:If you think losing a roll is bad imagine when you lose the end of wire down into a 500 pound drum.  No matter what you do when you retrieve the end it will be snarled up.   Half an hour of running and it jams over and over.  I have about a hundred pounds I brought home for tigging steel ( hard wire).  The rest went in the scrap bin.
