so I have a very impotant question is welding ROD the same as weldingWIRE?
Reply:I know the answer I just need to hear someone else say it cause this may mean I can get out of a contract
Reply:no one can answer this
Reply:Is this what you're looking for? The question is kinda vague. Same how?According to AWS:1. The first two letters of the classification may be:a. ER for solid wires that may be used as electrodes or rods;b. EC for composite cored or stranded wires; orc. EQ for strip electrodes2. The first three digist of the classification indicate composition. In a few cases, the number of digits may vary but still composition is still indicated.3. Letters may follow the digits to indicate specific alloy additions. In the case of the example, the letters “L” and “Mo” refer to low carbon grade with a 2.0 to 3.0% molybdenum addition.
Reply:MIG wire, as in ER70S, is the same as TIG rod, as in ER70S, but flux cored wire, as in E71T-1 is not the same. If by rod you mean SMAW electrodes, as in E7018, then no, they aren't the same.
Reply:It sounds like you're trying to see if the terms "Rod" and "wire" are interchangable. From your second post you seem to be trying to get out of some form of contract. From personal experience, trying to break contracts due to minor mispellings or incorrect terms (mainly from not knowing the trade lingo) is possible, but very, very, very expensive.Last edited by Birdwell4; 07-13-2011 at 09:47 PM.Reason: spelling

Reply:heres aother question off topic but I cant seem to figure out how to post a new topic , but this same company does not have any type of welding certifcation/program for the welders so we all use different rods making it haard to really know what the hell to use, I want to start a welding commitee or some type of program that connects all the welders together and also maye get everyone certs...any suggestions ? Can a company have in house training and certify there own welding PROCEDURE and welders ?
Reply:This is the way it works at the company that I work for...We have welding engineers on staff. They write welding procedures. They have a welder weld up a test coupon according to the procedure. They do all the testing (bend tests, x-rays, UT, etc) specified. This qualifies the procedure. All the welders then weld a coupon to the qualified procedure. This qualifies (certifies) the welders. This same process is used for all the different materials and welding techniques used. It takes us about 5 weeks of testing to certify to all the procedures we have. These qualifications do not transfer to other companies, that is, if I hire on with a different company, my certifications don't go with me. I would have to test for the new employer.
