29 a model

hey guys,      this is a 29 a i been working on. Migged all the frame except the perch, motor mounts well anything visible i tigged. has a 383 SBC ,2 speed glide. hopefully have it on the road in a month or two. Attached Images

Reply:Nice job!   I'm building a "Locost" from scratch.  It is loosly based off a Caterham/Lotus 7.I'm building ALL the chassis, Suspension, bodywork.  Here is my insperation A old pic of my chassisAll the brackets on the 99 Camaro SS rear axleUp next is the front suspension Keep us posted with pics and more info!

Reply:1988 Nissan 300zx Turbo engine.  3.0l V6 Single small turbo only running 4psi non intercooled.  But i have a IC and i will be upping the boost to around 10-12 psi to start.

Reply:Well please PM me and let me know what im doing wrong.  I'm no pro, and i know it.  And im willing to learn   When i started i cut the welds in 1/2 and the looked pretty good from what i could tell.p.s.  The car/chassis will have to pass a NYS safty inspection before a VIN # will be issued.Thanks  Ken

Reply:Looking great so far, LooseGun.  What are you planning on using for the floorboards?  I saw one guy used old road signs, while another used a bunch of license plates from all over the US.That's going to be one totally kool rod once you're finished ...
Reply:I have a few questions/statements with your panhard bar.  Are you only planning on cruising/looking at the car?  By putting your panhard bar over the axle your rear roll center is REALLY high.  If you put it on the underside of the axle you can drop your rear roll center by like 6+ inches!  That would make a big improvement in the feel of the rear end of the car. What you are basically doing is making the rear end "looser" or creating more oversteer.  If you had it on the underside the car would feel more "planted".The longer that you can make your panhard bar the better.  If there is nothing else going on the car, you are leaving a few inches on the table.  I would move the axle mount as far over to the Passanger side as possible and maybe even move the chassis mount to the underside of the frame to give yourself another 1-2" of length, just on the drivers side. You also want the Panhard bar to be level (for a road going car loaded) oval guys will add 1-2° to it to help them turn.  But without the car loaded its tough to figure out the location of the P.B.  I would also add a "gusset tube" to the axle stand off to give it extra strength, if you have not allready planned on it. That also looks like a GM rear axle?  here is my axle out of a 1999 camaro SS (LS1)  My panhard bar is below the axle and pretty long (38.50" center to center).Keep up the great work!

Reply:No problem, LooseGun.  Any ideas you want to roll past me, I'll give you the straight deal on 'em, especially if they're unique.Is your rod going to have the doors welded shut, or will you be able to open and close them?  If so, I have a few ideas for door handles and window cranks, if you're interested.I'm one of the "old's kool" type guys that loves seeing the old hot rods, customs, old motorcycles, and rat rods.  I always seem to have my nose buried in magazines like RebelRodz, Ol' Skool Rodz, Rod & Custom, Car Kulture Deluxe, and any number of other magazines dedicated to the way cars and bikes used to be built: with a torch in hand, and a vision in the head, with blood, sweat, and tears.  None of this "cookie cutter" stuff for me, where all the cars look alike - give me something different, unique, and just plain bad-@$$ ....Just for fun, I should post up some pictures of my rat-pocketbike.  I've taken odd bits and pieces from unusual things, and put them together on this bike to create something totally one-off.  Everyone knows I'm somewhere in the area when I bring the bike to the track ....Last edited by SpyGuy; 09-19-2009 at 01:49 AM.
