got about 600pounds of 75 year old steel..6" h beams , 3 x3 x 3/8 angle, all full of lead paint and rivets . spent some time with the torch seperating wheat from chaff, found a lot of times i needed to move the steel=put down the torch...made this to hold the torch securely while still lit..will also work good for stinger...handle is a wheel from a gate valve.. Reply:If you plan on leaving the torch lit, I think a bigger base would be a good idea.My name's not Jim....

Reply:That's pretty sweet... Personally, I like the idea of the smaller wheel (like the one you have) as opposed to the bigger discs. I find that I'm always 'kicking' them or at least bashing my toe on em'. I think if you did bump this well enough or tip this over, that you would likely damage your torch. I would put on a simple thumb catch, or some kind of quick release near the bottom of the cradle that you've made so that the Torch stays in the cradle.Cheers,/Jman...
Reply:point taken, thanks ..turns out this larger wheel is cast..i got to preheat and use the hobart nomacast rod..seems like it worked... Attached Images
Reply:Where do you find those wheels? I have been looking for one for weeks for my smoker build. If you cannot convince them, confuse them. Harry S Truman
Reply:they are handwheels from old gate valves which wore out and got replaced. this one came off a 10" gate valve .i do lots of pipe system demolition and replacement jobs.the steel i got which led to the need for a torch holder was a support for some old heat exchangers that stood seven feet high. |
