I have attached some photos of my welds while using the cup walking technique.I was welding MS 1/4", 3/32 Filler, 3/32 Tung. 230A with Gas Nozzle.Nice method to weld the fillet joints.  I did a dip on every cup step.  The steps were close together, I am not sure if I should have moved more on each step.Last edited by David R; 12-30-2007 at 07:38 PM.Reason: fix picsBuild a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Looks good.  Try a few more passes on the same piece.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Add more rod and watch the stop. Slowly let up on the heat and make the stop as smallas possible.
Reply:Try it without dipping the wire.  Leave it in the puddle and just walk over the top of it, smoothing it out to each side as you weave back and forth.  I think you'll like the appearance better.
Reply:Forget about that whole "walking the cup" thing. I know it sounds cool but it is not necessary.By looking at the weld in the photo it looks slightly better than a beginners weld.Your stop and start was good.It will be easier to use .045 filler wire NOT 3/32,  it is way too large and it will affect the looks of the weld.Set your machine amp dial to 140 amps because that is the maximum for that tungsten size.To get consistant welds that look like a row of dimes the secret is counting. Yes, just like a musician does in his head to have good rythmn and consistancy.Count 1234 1234 1234 as you are welding.Something you could try and I would not let The ceramic cup touch the surface while you are welding. All the time on welding forums you will hear people say they have a lot of experience doing a lot of welding of a particular type. The truth is some welders spend the whole day welding day in and day out, month after month ,year after year welding with ONE WELDING process and they get VERY,VERY good. So really think about that.I spent 15 years doing TIG welding but, if i was at home doing stick welding I know that even if i thought I was pretty good, I know that i will not be as good as someone that does it all day long.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 12-31-2007 at 11:38 AM.
