Not sure if this is the best place for this question, but here goes:  I'm comparing some inverter TIG units, and it struck me how the input power requirements varied widely - these are all 175 - 200A class machines, mostly name brands but I did throw an offshore unit in there for comparison.  Input power requirements vary from 17.4 to 30A @ 230V.  I collected all the data and it's in an attachment, hopefully it's both attached and legible. On the one hand, it seems odd to me that the efficiencies vary so widely, as I would have thought the inverter machines are mostly the same technology.  On the other, the efficiencies do match up with the duty cycles - the machines that eat up less power in the circuitry can run longer. So my question, after all that, is whether I have any errors in this analysis, or if anyone has any additional comments. The reason this is all pertinent is that if I get a more efficient machine I can save on wiring.Tim Attached Images
Reply:Your output volts and amps are reversed.  I think you might be getting to technical with your purchase.  JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :

Reply:don't get too hung up with the 'on paper' specsif you download the dynasty owners manual you'll find it can pull a max of 35A on 230V 1phase.my invertec is similar- can pull 34A @ 230Vin the UK (at least) both these machines would be fused (230V) with a 16A slow trip breaker- they do not pull high amps all the time but can for a very short time
