Honda 450R cast aluminum weld

The ATV threw off drive chain, broke off chain guard bolt pads and broke hole in stator cover. I used carbon rod in bolt holes to keep from welding them shut. Bored broken seal area to size, drilled out carbon rod and installed thread inserts. Dressed welds w/carbide burrs then sanding rolls.Pre/post heat to 350, TIG with 4043Peter Attached Images

Reply:You used carbon rod to keep from filling the holes.  Q:  When finished welding, is the rod easily removed? as in the rod simply slides out?  Or, do you have to drilled it out then repair the threads?  Thanks.OOps, reread your original post.  I got it.
