For those who may or may not remember the 'tool mount receiver' in my work bench build http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=25389&page=3 (post #69) - or those who never saw it - I added one of two planned pipe vise mounts this past weekend along the lines of the bench grinder attachment in the bench grinder stand build http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=28716.The pipe vise mount gave me an opportunity to put my 'new' Enco 12 x 36 lathe http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=34703 to use once I got the 3-jaw chuck centered up (was running .018" out!) and cleaned/freed up the center stay so I could use it in making/preping some of the pieces. This first mount is for a No.20 Rigid yoke style vise I picked up off ebay for pennies on the dollar as well as an even greater deal on a model BC-410 that'll be the second vise to get a similar mount as the No.20.Started out making the alignment/clamp bolt. . .. . .next I made the male base for the 'swivel'. . .. . .and moved on to the 'upright' where the center stay was needed. Then I cut a stop ring and welded it in place on the upright with the MM200. . .. . .before cross drilling for the alignment/clamp bolt.A few more photos to come in post #2.Last edited by duaneb55; 10-19-2009 at 11:25 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:3/16" flat plate base welded to the top of the upright with support gusset. All fabricated and secured in the work bench receiver.Maximum vise capacity 1-1/4" pipe held in place in the vise in one direction. . .. . .and rotated 90 degrees if needed.Complete unit removed from receiver. Same unit will fit in the grinder/tool stand and the male swivel half of the mount will also be used for the model BC-410 vise. Thanks for looking.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I can see the next project will be an easy access storage rack for the attachments. What size was that alignment/locking bolts turned down portion?

Reply:Cool. I gotta get around to adding receivers to my workbench. It's nice to be able to have the accessories, and have the option of switching back to a "clean" configuration in seconds.Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster

Reply:I really like the receiver-hitch idea for swapping tools in and out ... I think I'll be mounting one up under my own workbench, and finally get my damn HF bender broken in ......

Reply:It seems like a lot of guys are doing the receiver-hitch thing, and why not? It's a good idea. You can quickly and easily change tools as needed, and don't have to absolutely have something bolted directly to the workbench anymore. Modular equipment ... gotta love 'em ...... |
