Welding in 4g

What is this overhead? But anyway I have only welded in 1g (flat) position before and I am decent at it. I have good welds..Also, How do you do it? The gun feels so different when over my head. Also, it feels like I can feel the wire coming out of the gun when holding upside down.

Reply:I am trying. I was always told welding is all about comfort. So in that case the work piece I am welding is about three feet away from me. So my arms aren't where I would like them to be. Would you guys throw something underneath your back to raise it instead of laying on the floor to get your arms closer?I mean you do anything to get that comfort to get that better weld right?

Reply:yea personally I think verticle would be more useful, and my teacher usually doesnt even bother teaching the students who are not looking to get certified, he will teach it to them all just wont go into the same detail that he does with the more serious students. Its hard with one teacher probably 50+ students and only 3hrs for each class one day a week, I didnt even see him last week.
Reply:There are all kinds of teachers, they are people too. Welding instructors are a different breed though, I think! Some will let you build Fort Knox if you wish, others are line ahead, straight and narrow. Take what they have to offer and put the energy into the program that you would expect to get out of it. Whether or not you need a cert. is less important than learning the how to of it all.City of L.A. Reply:I remember overhead was easier than vertical, but we had to do vertical first.Looking back the hardest thing about overhead was thinking about it before we could do it...all a sort of mid game.just get comfortable.....nothing is going to look good if your not.G
Reply:agreed with the teacher comment, but he actually teachers about whats happening. And with overheard vs. verticle, I found verticle to be easier just for the fact it was more comfortable for me so  i was able to get into it more. but I think now without using a full heavy leather jacket and just my sleeves it will be alot better.
