Hey guys,In searching I haven't seen much about how these machines compare.  Have any of you tried both, and/or have some advice on what the relative strengths/weaknesses between these two machines might be?Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC, Millermatic 252 & 30A spoolgun, Thermal Arc 185 TIG, Miller BWESmith Oxy-AcBridgeport 2J , South Bend 42" 9AHusky 7.5 HP 22.3 CFM 80 gal compressor

Reply:Have never tried the Miller.  I don't weld for a living, but I am very happy with my V205.  I think the Miller has more bells and whistles.  One thing I wish the V205 had, was a fan on demand.
Reply:After more reading tonight, I'm also wondering about the Thermal Arc Arcmaster 200.  So many features that it's kind of hard to compare before you are an experienced weldor, but it's hard to get experienced before you buy the machine!!!Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC, Millermatic 252 & 30A spoolgun, Thermal Arc 185 TIG, Miller BWESmith Oxy-AcBridgeport 2J , South Bend 42" 9AHusky 7.5 HP 22.3 CFM 80 gal compressor
Reply:also have a v205t but have not had the pleasure of using a dynasty. the dynasty is generally regarded as being the better machine but you will pay for it...the miller website has a 'paper' comparison of the two if you look at the dynasty 200 in the TIG welders section. obviously it's carefully worded to emphasize the dynastys' advantagesbells and whistles don't make good welds, weldors do. super high 'AC frequency', mind boggling 'pulse' combinations etc will NOT make better welds- in the right hands they make some jobs faster/easierIMO, if you're inexperienced i would choose based on price and locality of a helpful dealer. ask some for a demo and you'll be able to compare the arc quality for yourself
Reply:None of our local dealers are interested in being competitive, as they make almost zilch on the machines.  They don't care if you buy one from them or not.I buy all my gas from the best local dealer and I've been getting good service.  They're several hundred dollars higher than online vendors and often don't have the machines in stock. So far, the best price on the Miller I've found was at Indiana Oxygen for $3227 with the foot control.  The Lincoln machine I've only found at BR Welder for $3270.  The Thermal Arc machine is at Indiana Oxygen for $2450.Are they honestly all about the same?  The Thermal Arc warranty is 5 years vs. 3 for the Lincoln and the Miller, but I'm hoping someone here has had experience with more than one machine.Anyone?Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC, Millermatic 252 & 30A spoolgun, Thermal Arc 185 TIG, Miller BWESmith Oxy-AcBridgeport 2J , South Bend 42" 9AHusky 7.5 HP 22.3 CFM 80 gal compressor
Reply:I have used the dynasty, and the Lincoln. I own the Lincoln v205. They are equal machines. A little of this and that. The lincoln has a wider range of voltage input, the Miller goes down to 1 amp, the lincoln goes down to 5 amps. I snagged my Lincoln on a deal, the Miller was a couple hundred bucks less normally. I got a price I could not beat, so I took the deal. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:And I have heard nothing but good things about the TA, so take it for what its' worth. Every one of these machines is more advanced than I am as a welder. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I've got TA-185 and it's a super welder.  If you would rather have a Lincoln or a Miller go ahead, it's your money.  This is one of the rare times in life the low bidder really is the best deal.  The Dynasty might have i little better range of adjustments but the Arcmaster will work fine for most people.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:The Thermal Arc is a great machine and, for the money, it's the best deal out there in a small, full-featured ac/dc tig machine.   It does everything the Blue or Red machines do, for about $1000 less money.  I have the ArcMaster 185 ACDC, which is almost the same machine as the 200.  I believe the 200 can connect to 3-phase power, and it puts out 15 more amps, but other than that, the 185 and 200 are the same (as best I can remember from when I was shopping about a year and a half to 2 years ago).  The 185 is about $500 less than the 200 and, for me, the 185 was the better deal.  I didn't need the 3-phase power capability and the 15 extra amps wasn't worth an extra 500 bucks to me.  If it was a 250 instead of 200, I would have been willing to pay the extra money for it.The 185 has been a great machine, no problems, very easy to set up and use, and has nice soft arc.  I'm big on Miller welders, but I don't have any regrets about choosing the Thermal Arc over the Miller for this machine.  I would do the same if I had it to do over again.   If I'd had alot more money, I would have bought the ArcMaster 300 instead, but that was beyond the budget.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Ive got a PT 185 Lincoln and its a great welder smooth and after 2 years no break downs.A lot heavier than the inverter types, think its been superceded with the PT225,A good guess is better than a bad measurement
