Anyone have any pictures or ideas for a front bumper for a GMC duramax.  Mine was the unlucky recipient of a deer yesterday. I would rather replace the entire bumper with something steel that will hold up than pay gm for another one.  I know there is also the option of buying one but I dont see the need of paying 1500 to 2000 dollars when my welding shop can build one.  thanks in advance for any ideas or pictures.

Reply:The bumper on the sierra in the first link is badass, hopefully I will get a chance to build one for my duramax one of these days, and if I do, it will look like the first one!Miller Dynasty 300dxSpeedglas 9002XMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeLincoln PowerMig 255xtLincoln PowerMig 140cMilwuakee Portaband

Reply:the truck is an 2006 i really like the looks of the pipe bumper and showed a couple pictures of a tough country to my welder today and they said no problem.  I just can see buying one when I can build it for about 300 hundred because we have the steel already.  thanks for the pics in the above post saw a few of those was hoping someone had a well detailed build.  I am sure I dont want to replace the plastic componets of the gm bumper this is the sixth deer this week that has been hit by one of my trucks.

Reply:My office and shop is located out in the county and in eastern north carolina we are very over populated with deer.  We have quite a few trucks and they come in in the evening and before light in the morning so six isn't all that bad.  Plus it dosen't really phase the dump trucks when they hit a deer.
Reply:i made an exact replica of a fab fours rear bumper for my lifted duramax. They give you all the measurements you need really. Basically measure everything off center and youll be golden. I made mine for roughly 300$ all together after i had it line-x'd whereas they want upwards of almost 2 grand canadian after tax for a rear bumper. Attached Images
Reply:heres a few more. It took alot of layout and caluclations but folding it together like this saved material and went together extremely smooth. I layed it out as if it were flat and cut the perimeter with a zipcut, then creased all my bend lines with a zipcut about 3/4 of the way through the material then proceeded to bend and tack. Once it took shape your left with an excellent fillet to allow good penetration and able to grind smooth after. I had some leftover 9018-B3 leftover from some pressure work i did previous so i used that up. Also went to the milling machine and made some custom clevis pins, pre-beveled some   1" stainless round stock on the lathe and tig welded that to the clevis bolt head. Then proceeded to mill to a point. Iam thinking i might do some similar work like this on the front bumper. Attached Images
