Hi, Working on an old VW bus and need to repair some of the supports underneath. Local steel yard wants $100 for a 4x8n sheet of steel. Haven't bought anything in a while so not sure if thats a decent price or not. Any thoughts?Century Quick Fix wire welder, Century Infanite Disc Stick welder, Lincoln Pro-Mig 175, Oxy Acetaline torches.
Reply:it differs from region to region, but that is reasonable unless you are a high volume customer.I just bought 4 4x48 sheets of 10 gauge and paid 412 after taxes. I get a good discount because I buy a lot of material.RussMiller 302GMIller 12RC SuitecaseMIller 30A spoolgunHF-251D-1WP17 Tig torchSmith HD torchHypertherm 45Jet drill pressHF 7X12 wet cut horizontal band sawPlasmacam CNC table
Reply:Look in their remnant bins, or look for flat bar the size you need. You could likely build an entire vw bus out of a 4x8 sheet of 12 gauge.
Reply:I buy a fair bit of 4x8 12 and 16 gauge mild steel sheet. The price varries slightly each time I buy but most of the time I pay around $75-$80 for a 4x8 sheet of 12 gauge. A sheet of 16 gauge will cost me $55 ish. A sheet of 4x8 10 gauge will set me back around $100.I generaly buy 2-4 sheets at a time.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720 |
