Hello to all you amp-crazed metal melters.....I just bought a used Lincoln Square Wave TIG 175 PRO. Unfortunately, it's Model# 10733, which is the 460/575 model. I thought I could convert to 220, but according to Lincoln, it would cost more than the welder is worth. My options as I see it:1) Sell it and look for something that runs on 220V, single phase.2) Build/buy a step-up transformer (but maybe not with reg. house current).3) See if anyone knows an "economical" way of juicing-down the 10733.4) Try some creative horse-trading with someone who has the correct feed.I just wanted to ask all you good folks if you have any suggestions before I put the welder on Craig's List. Thanks in advance for any help.Dave(Orange, CA)
Reply:I would sell it and look for a 220 volt model. Those step up transformers often run hot, they buzz. And then you go and connect a high frequency load that fluctuates more then any other load I know of and you are asking for trouble. Sincerely, William McCormick
Reply:I agree........had something like that happen although in a different sort of way. I bought a single phase mill but they sent me a 3 phase instead....sooo the dealer sent me a phase converter and I was back in business.
Reply:Contact Lincoln or their LWS for advice. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:I checked w/Lincoln factory, and the machine is built for 460/575 only.
Reply:Best option is to put in on craiglist or trade unless you want to spend much more than you likely paid to ge the right power. Step up transformer, disconnects and phaser to create the 3 phase you also need will add up even at used prices. Unless you really love it lol set it free.Latest Toys Miller 180 Mig and Elite Mask!!Wright Welder 225ACShop OutFitters 20/20 Bending SystemHypertherm 380 Plasma30 Years of Sparking (Electrical & Welding) |
