Anyone made or have design for a cool can crusher? I go through lots of "beverage cans" when working after hours in the shop. I've seen the cheap plastic ones, but would like to fab a killer crusher. Reply:I've been playing around with air cylinders lately and when I get time I will make an air can crusher.  Just need a peice of pipe and cut an opening for a can to fit and weld a peice of plate on one end and attach the cylinder to the other.  Add a valve and drop a can in and hook it up to your compressor and watch the cans get crushed.  Easy to build and a fun toy, just be careful where you stick your fingers!  Search youtube for can crushers and you will get all kinds of ideas.Here is an air one[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uJmj9x3uFA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uJmj9x3uFA[/ame]Here is another pretty neat one.[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpDtn23SEio"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpDtn23SEio[/ame]
Reply:Great ideas but after further thought I think I want to build a crusher that will handle a twelve pk.. When crusher is full, (12 cans), it cycles, crushing all twelve cans but in a way that links the cans together, forming a single sheet of aluminum. Reply:my uncle built a really nice one out of lexan and steel, it had a lexan chute, and was powered by an air cylinder, the cool part was it had an Allen Bradley photo eye that saw the cans as they dropped, then it crushed them
Reply:Check out the Ez Power Crushers.  There is a complete (compressed air/pneumatic) powered crusher or a DIY version (steel, mountable body).  The DIY gets you part of the way there... you just need to add some type of power (e.g., an air or electric cylinder) and what ever other customizations you want (multi-feed, auto-activate, etc).www.ezpowercrusher.com
