I'm kicking around the idea of building an acreage rake to tow behind my lawn mower.  Northern tools has a couple of models made by Swisher. Just don't want to spend $400+. Besides it looks like a good project that I have all winter to work on.Century Powermate 100 ( my first welder)Lincoln Precision TIG 185
Reply:my search for field rakes on northern tool turned up some interesting results. apparently they are calling a hay rake and acreage rake?http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...7957_200317957thats just going to put everything in a row for bailing. you might be better off with a harrow. and yes, tractor implements are expensive. what exactly are you trying to accomplish? migh better help us with your dilema.i think you need a field harrow. its what ive always used for getting crap out of the fields and prepare for mowing/bailing the next spring.I break things for a living...
Reply:I think the OP is probably looking at the one they call a 'landscape rake'. Sort of reminiscent of the old sulky rakes and the dump rakes used to just drag a roll into a windrow in the loose hay days only smaller now and a tighter pattern for leaves and such.
Reply:Maybe he means a York rake?
Reply:Actually Smokin'Dodge is very close to what I've got in mind. Northern Tools has another one at http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...7913_200357913. These are much smaller than a hay rake. I saw one in a local store. The rake wheels are only about a foot in diameter. Suitable for dethatching and yard clean up.Century Powermate 100 ( my first welder)Lincoln Precision TIG 185
Reply:I would keep looking until I find exactly what I want and then search for a online a exploded view of the parts. It should become clear what parts you can make, weld, whatever and price the parts you may need to order. Then you will know what it will cost to build and what it will look like.
Reply:I have the estate rake brand. It works real well at pulling out the dead grass in the spring. It would be easy to copy. You would have to buy the round rake wheels which would be the expensive part. If you need numbers for size let me know.]Lincoln PT 225 Tig
Reply:Thanks for the replies all. I've been eye-balling an Estate Rake at a local store. That is kinda what gave me the idea. When I get started, I'll post some pics. Thanks again.Century Powermate 100 ( my first welder)Lincoln Precision TIG 185
Reply:You probably already know this, but those lawn sweepers than use brushes and a manual trip dumping hopper are the deal. I have tractors and implements and probably the best $275.00 I spent was on a sears 42" lawn sweeper to pull behind the lawn mower. It'll clean up a yard in a hurry....clippings, pine cones, pinestraw, leaves, sticks, kids toys etc.
