Just some practice beads, probably 1/16" steel. I know the splatter is from being too far away. Multiple layers, criss cross to save base metal. Critquing is welcome. Standard General purpose 1/8" welding rod. 6010 I think? I like the stick welding...Its a new world.I'm 21 and learningAvid 4wd enthusiastASE Master tech (Automotive), mechanic/fabricator by trade
Reply:Looking good.Typically, to save metal and give better practice, you would place each weld next to the other one. In effect, you are building the plate up evenly as you go across. When you fill it up, continue with beads but go 90 degrees to the last layer. Then, as you continue building up, start to weave, etc.Keep up the pics.KRS***************************************Lincoln AC225 stick welderLincoln HD100 WeldPak flux core wire feed welderThree of the cheapest grinders money can buy

Reply:yea i dunno about practicing doing the criss cross thing... when we do practice beads we usually overlap and build up the plate. Thats and important thing to practice in stick welding is getting a good overlap with your beads and making them all flush and what not for when you need to do multiple pass fillet welds. run a bead, clean it real good, then run the next one right next to it so it overlaps, thats all we did first semester of stick welding in school...we will also be able to see your beads alot better toolooks great though keep it up!I like to party!
Reply:I've mostly run 3/32 or 1/8 7018 in my class which is really easy compared to the 6010. 7018 just makes such nice beads that lie real flat and its easy to stop and start. Glad Im doing 6010 though, it's cool to see different types of manipulation used for fast fill or fast freeze. Looks good to me. I like to use 1/4 plate for practice, easier to handle as it heats up. just my preference.
Reply:Well basically we have a box that has metal chunks all about 4 by 4 inches wide. That was the thickest I could find, being the scraps are supposed to be more for the wire feed station.I'm 21 and learningAvid 4wd enthusiastASE Master tech (Automotive), mechanic/fabricator by trade |
