A returning customer who has been returning happy braught me some more work today. Now that I have a digital camera again so I can start contributing here a little more, I cant count how many little jobs I have done that I wish I posted on here.  I remeberd to take the pics right before i started to disassemble it so the thats why there is all the funky angles. Now that I look at it, this first picture is loaded with projects Ive welded, the trailer -i tossed an axle and jack and out riggers and a deck onto a frame that was given to me when i built a new trailer for a guy, the tow hitch thats in the quad i made this morning, the little stand my welding leads are wrapped up on, the little hoist i tossed up to get my welder or what ever in and out of the truckwas temporary but its been really handy. OH! RIGHT! U were probly wondering about the skid steer plow! This plow is WAY too big for the machine, and for the way the plow is attached to the quick change. They had one of the portable guys in the area work on its repairs last time, but it broke a couple times and now the whole thing is twisted. His repair work seemed like the quick way out, but I looked closer at it and wondered how the guy made a couple of the welds. I couldnt tell if the slag hadnt been chipped off or if it was crappy mig! Then I and noticed that the previous welder used nickel rod ina few spots including the bird poop. I dont know why.I am going to have to borrow a torch or plasma cutter, but when Im done here his blade will be straight to the quick change again, he will be able to grease his pins and my part will be over built but look factory.  I like to make stuff user friendly and look professional and last so the customer keep coming back.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Here is another pic of the weld done with stainless or something shiny. Here is some pics of how far twisted it is. The picture thats looking at it straight from the back shows it best. Its a few inches tilted, no good for plowing. No pics of the repairs yet, but I should have it fixed next weekend on my days off from my regular job. More out of wack stuff.I forgot to mention the big ugly grader cutting edge that was put onto it. I hope he wants to change that thing too.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Most blades I've seen have a blade trip or an edge trip on them. That unit looks like its solid with no trip. That means everytime he hits a curb, manhole cover or water box all the weight of the machine is going to try and bend that blade. The trip is there so that the blade can rise a bit and ride over the blockage or absorb some of the force involved. I've bent my share of blades even with blade trips if you catch those manholes right. Usually everytime a blade gets F'd however, it's usually because the trip is frozen (begining of the season and they're rusted up from sitting)The only exception I've seen is one blade a guy has for removing built up ice from parking lots. That is fixed solid so he can use the weight of the machine bearing down to cut thru the ice and then ride under it to break it up. He just figures he will need to rebuild it when he breaks it and has made notes as to where the manholes that stick up are so he can slow down there. He does use a seperate cutting edge thats bolted to the blade. It does 2 things. First because he rides the weight of the machine on it, he wears blade edges FAST. It's not unusual for him to eat 2-3 6" cutting edges in a busy season. Second the bolts act as shear pins. If he hits one of those manholes fast and hard he'll tear the edge off as the bolts shear before he really F's up the blade.I can't tell from the picts what type of blade that is. It looks like it might be a heavily modified Fisher with the trip edge removed and the cutting edge mounted to the fixed blade. That or an old  Myers/Diamond blade from the side plate, with the blade trip removed when they changed the mount for the skidsteer. One other thought I just had. I have seen some guys rely on the float control on a backhoe to act as a trip. Usually the blades are almost 90 deg to the road surface so the blade doesn't want to dig in and with the bucket in float, the blade will ride over small obstructions. If this blade is designed to be used this way and he's running with the unit set solid to dig rather than float, that would cause these things also..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:That there looks to be a dozer blade for a skid steer.  Good luck fixin' it up. I too am in the process of mounting a meyers plow to a skid steer quick attach.  I have to widen out the plow and make the pivot mount.  I'll try to post pics.Found a good price on cushion valves at surplus center.
Reply:I kinda been putting off adding the finished pictures up of the project. I had finished the welding and threw a light coat of paint onto the work and headed to bed, it was a long day at work and a long day after work trying to get this plow done. I only got a couple pics and they turned out bad, the next day my dad hung around so he could collect the money from the guy when he picked it up, so i never got the chance to take better pics in the day light. The pics I do have dont do it any justiceI was however very pleased with the way it turned out, I had a piece of 4x4 x 1/2" tubing I layed on the bottom, and a cut down piece of 3x3 x 1/4" on top of that to tie in the heavy duty 1/2" thick sleeve I put on there too. I used some 3/16" 7018 but mostly 5/32" 7018There was some lathe work required make the pin fit into the sleeve. I built up the bashed out holes on the ears on the plow part with 3/32" 7018 and die grinded them round again. I also installed a greese nipple on the sleeve.  When the customer saw the work I did he literally jumped with joy and screamed alll right!!  He was very pleased and braught me more work to do immediatly.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
