Bicycle trainer

I finally finished a little project I have been working on.  I have hated having the front wheel on my bicycle when in the trainer.  I dedicated an old bike frame specifically for the trainer and built this stand.  It's a work in progress as I am going to add a arm to mount the controls to.  I am happy I was able to use all my machine tools except oxy / act; MIG, TIG, plasma, and my lathe...Rod

Reply:i think the rear axle fits into the trainer.
Reply:But the axle doesn't stick out far enough on either side for it to fit in the trainer? Maybe he just stuck an extended shaft through the entire assembly?Millermatic 210
Reply:Cervelorod, Nice job. A set of rollers would even your bike out.  I hate stationary riding.  Riding rollers keeps my interest a little longer.How much time do you spend on a trainer?
Reply:there are "clamps" that clamps the rear axle's quick release.  like in the pic Attached Images

Reply:Right now I get 3-6 hours a weeks on the trainer, 3-4 sessions.  I have joined a group that "races" every other week.  The Computrainer is "special" in that it can be controlled by your PC.  There is a course posted, you download it and race it, then send back your results.I plan to ride the Boise 70.3 bike course in January, 56 miles, so probably 3 hours pedaling and not moving forward an inch.I have tried rollers and never got the hang of them.  They seemed especially hard to get into an aero position.  I never graduated from the doorway...

Reply:hey RODI have been toying with the idea of fabing a steel road bike frame and basically buillding on from the ground up. I have heard you can order the steel "butts" from a company in England. what do you think??? could it be done in a garage without jigs???

Reply:I too have thought about building a bicycle frame.  The equation for the proper number of bicycles a guy should have can be expressed as N+1, where N = to the current number of bikes in your garage already.I tried building a mini-chopper frame out of DOM, and I do not think you could keep a frame square without jig.  I tried making a jig and it worked out ok, but don't think I could get a bike frame straight enough without a jig for it to be a rider.There are several places in my neck of the woods, Pac NW, that have classes to teach you how to do a frame.  Most are centered on steel lugged ( brazed ) frames.  One in Eugene, OR will allow you to come back and do additional processes and frames.When I get rich and famous, okay maybe when I'm just rich, I would love to be able to TIG an aluminum frame.  That would require lots and lots of practice...  Take lots of pictures!Rod
