Welding table??

I have some decent projects coming up and think its time for a welding table. I picked up a plate that is actually really straight that is 1/2in thick and 8ft long by `42in wide. I plan on using some 6x6 I beam for legs its free. Do i need to weld a frame to the bottom of the plate? I dont want to have to but will if need be. I can use 6 legs if it will keep me from making a frame.My plan is to tie all the legs together with some 3x3 1/4in angle at the bottom. I have tried a search and cant come up with my questions. Thanks for the help.
Reply:I would make a frame 88"x34" that will give you 4 inches over hang on all sides.  since you're getting the 6x6's for free, why not?  even with a frame, I'd still do 6 legs.that's gonna be a heavy table.  post some pics.
