I have the cheapo 90 amp HF Welder, would it pop the breaker if i was to use it with a 14 gauge100 foot cord on a household 15 amp breaker? Just wondering.
Reply:Of course 1st off a voltage calculator is probably going to tell you no. Pretty simple to just look up a voltage calculator, plunk in the amperage your welder requires then plunk in the footage you want to go and it'll tell you the wire size required to get there within an allowable voltage drop. My guess is 12 awg or more. In reality there is the ideal arrangement that the voltage calculator is going to give you then there is the real world that you can get by with or are stuck with do to other circumstances. Some times you can push the limits quite a bit if the local supply voltage is already nice and high. But then maybe you are coming off a circuit that is already 60 or 80 feet long, cheezy back stab receptacles for the through put, two TVs running on it, fish tank and some room lighting and somebody plugs in a vacuum while your welding. Not always a yes or no."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:might not pop the breaker..probably wont weld very well.that thing needs a 20 amp breaker and a ten foot 10 gauge cord to have a prayer..
Reply:You will "Thermal Out" the machine before you even start......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:well i have a septic tank pump in the back yard that uses a 20 amp breaker of it's own. It doesnt run much so maybe i could use that on a 50 foot cord?
Reply:What exactly do you need to weld?If you can get use borrow a generator with a 30 amp plug then you are in business.....zap!Last edited by zapster; 01-07-2012 at 11:30 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I had time today to try the 100 foot extension cord on a 15 amp breaker, the welder actually did really well. I couldn't tell any difference what so ever. it sizzled like bacon lol. Also i got a new auto darkening helmet and it's awesome to be able to see what I'm doing. makes welding fun.
Reply:Check the cord after you use it for awhile and see if it's getting warm or hot. If it's not then you should be good to go.________________________________Everlast PA140STEverlast PowerPlasma 50And no you can't Borrow them |
