Drilling the Welding table top for clamp placement

Hey guys about to hire a magnetic based drill to drill out a fair few hole in my welding table top so i can put clamp where i want them. Any tips into how many, method and orientation of the holes? im thinking of using a 12mm broach....CheersBy the way my top is 2400mm x 1200mm x 8mm or for you imperialists about 8 x 6 foot.
Reply:Unless you make the top into swiss cheese (a lot of freakin drilling), there will always be the 1 spot you can't reach.Get some of these clamps & weld them down where & when needed.They are about $15.00 eachBuy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Forget the holes.  Forget all the fancy high dollar magnetic stuff.Simply weld two 3x3 pieces of angle iron together (in a straight manner), and you have a set of fixtures that can be used anywhere on the table, and clamps will go anywhere on the fixture.  Simply store them leaned up against the wall when not in use.  Clamp them to the table for use.Furthermore, you can level almost anything perfectly by adding shims anywhere along the underside of the trestle/beam/thingie.  Simple and sweet. Reply:Nerdstar, check my post " another table, any tips" I mag drilled 5/16th holes every 4 inches then I tapped them to 3/8. Next I modified cheapo clamps to bolt to the table, I like how it works! Let me know what you think of my system! Nice thing is that the holes are small and don't compromise the table top. Also the clamps are bolted to heavy angle pieces so you don't hafta weld crappy cast iron to the angle pieces!
