Here's my stab at a mig cart. I'm still contemplating a front handle and adding a 4 outlet AC for a drill and grinder. Attached Images

Reply:Nice looking. Does the bottle drop inside the rear handle?
Reply:I am guessing thats the loacation. But I don't have one yet or may just keep on with the flux core from now on.The only other thing That I might be interested in is aluminum. But I hear that is hard to weld and easy to screw it up.I also heard that you can use gas on steel and use flux core wire at the same time for a cleaner weld.Keep in mind that I have only had this welder since December.
Reply:Nice looking cart and you have a Clarke welder! Very cool. If anything, you could revise the cart or just use a small bottle. If you're doing alot of welding, the flux core wire gets expensive. I think it's around $25-28 per 2lb. roll...for the good stuff. You can get an 11 lb. roll of solid wire for $12-16.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Once you use bare wire, you will be amazed. Its cheaper, and does a fine job.Nice cart, I like the handle, looks like a grocery cart.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Grocery Cart.....hahahah yeah I was hoping noone would see thatI just noticed it after I took the pictureBut my main concern was getting stuck in soft earthand pushing the thing overbecause if I welded the handle straight up it would put all of the pressure on the front wheelswhere as the handle rails closer to the centerwould put lesser presure on the two front casitersOK I'm CrazyHow do I like the Clark welder?Well I've never had a welder before at all.My decision was between Hobart and Horror Freight. And Clark was in between.Didn't have the cash for the Hobart and I could not bear the thought of a HFsince I bought HF's Largest power inverter ($150 on sale)for a generator battery charger that I built and it didn't even work right out of the box. This Clark Welder is one bad a*s metal cooking machine. I expected wire to slip and hang up and not have the power to do enough of anything and blow the thermal overload. I have not welded any quarter inch steel yet but the flux core 0.030 maxsetting is #3 on 3/16 and #2 most of the time and I don't worry about the duty cycle because It is obviously MOOT this time of year at 75FdegreesLast edited by WhiskeyDeltaBravo; 03-08-2007 at 03:18 PM.
Reply:I have the Clark 185 SG and it sure has power to spare. It is 220V. I weld 3/16 aluminum on min/B setting. So far so good. I also just started building me a cart for my Thermal Arc 185 and Clark 185SG combo. I'm using scrap I had laying around. Including bed frame material! "LOL" Attached ImagesTHE OLDER I GET! Reply:When all this cold weather passes,I'll break down and go get some tubing of the same size and build a more robust cart, but for now this scrap metal cart will serve the purpose.Rust inhibitor, primer and paint to come but freezing weather dont help.THE OLDER I GET! Reply:I like your cart- and it looks like an 80 cubic foot tank should fit right in there. A couple of tips: Don't forget to make a small mounting bracket to hold the tank or at the very least, a couple of holes to attach the chain to secure the tank. A small cross-piece right behind your MIG would probably do it. Maybe borrow a friend's tank just to see the diameter and height. Trust me, one day, you'll have one! Another tip- how about some cable holders on the side? It makes things way slicker to just coil the cable up on the side. Re: gas: I used flux-core until the day I gave gas a try. OMG- it was beautiful! The smoke and much of the spatter was gone and wow- what beautiful welds. I (and many others) have never gone back to flux-core. Try it, it's very slick! You mentioned a front handle: here's a link to a cart I built with how I did the front handle: http://www3.telus.net/davejewers/main/Migcart/index.htm Just a short piece of bent EMT tubing was easy and very cheap.Cheers,Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc. |
