Hey Guys anyone have a recomedation for a core drill for doing sidewalk and stair railings . I need one, Links to product would be great or just the manf. name and model. Thanks in advanceTSW
Reply:i owned a couple of milwaukee core drills.  are you going to be doing stairs also:  then the base size might be important.   if you are only going to be doing rail then most of your holes will be between 3 and 4 inches.   no need for a bunch of bits, though you can make money coring other things.check craigslist.  loads of rail guys have gone belly up and there are a lot of core drills sitting in storage collecting dust.   there are other brands out there now for much less money.  they are made by you know who.   i was in a tool rental place not long ago and they had a couple of you know who core drills there and the guy swore by them.    due your own due diligence though. don't forget the vacuum pump.  it will save you some headaches.   have a good genny too because they can pop breakers when they bind.   nothing like watching one do a 360 from an upper story balcony.ebay is a good source of info for pricing core drills but there is a lot of over priced junk on there too..http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?clk_r...=p5197.c0.m627
Reply:1st post here, been a lurker for a while. fwiw I like the Multiquip handheld...drilled lots and lots of post holes from 1" to 3.5"...about 9" deep was the deepest with a thin wall 3.5". I like it way better than any of the Milwaukees I've used over the years, and I bought my unit from this same outfit about 5-6 years ago. It still runs greatBe sure to checkout the portable hand pump bottle that they offer...great for remote locations, tight spots and detail work...http://www.cessco.us/MQ/cdm_1h.htmlGood LuckJohn Mwww.copperwork.comLast edited by John Madarasz; 01-24-2012 at 10:00 PM.Reason: add a few thoughts
Reply:I have a core bore drill. Its a great unit.  I got 1" to 8" bits in 1/2" increments.  Hilti also makes a very nice unit, if you feel like blowing some $$$.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:If for short term I would rent one until you need to own one.  Dan

Reply:What size holes are you doing?  That can determine whether your going to be able to handheld it or rig mount it.  The Hiltis have a quick disconnected, but adaptors are available to use threaded bits. This shirt is "dry-clean only"...which means it's dirty.
Reply:Thanks for all the infoTSW
