I've been working on building the ultimate fabrication table (ultimate for me anyways). Since I seen a lot of good projects and ideas on YouTube I figured I'd put up some videos on my progress so maybe somebody else can get an idea or two.Anyways, here's the link to our YouTube channel that has the videos.http://www.youtube.com/user/SmokinPHorsesI'd appreciate your commentsAlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010

Reply:Welcome to the forum Al!. Learn somethin' every day don't we?? I had no idea there were ranches in Illinois. Guess I need to get out more often. I watched your videos on your table. Have to say you have some good ideas too. The channel vise is a simple build but I'd say will be pretty functional. The aerosol holder is a good idea, except aerosol don't mix too good with welding, cutting etc. Hold a cold beer or coke tho! Having a built in electrical connection works too, just have to watch where you use your torches...overall a very nice table. Should be something you'll use for years. I'd have put a much heavier top on it, even with the 1x1 it won't last you long, but use what you have is a rule we most of us have to live by. The last video puts you doing a little more than horses and hobby welding though doesn't it?Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:I've done design and cad work for about 18 years now. Mostly did 2D for a living but was always interested in the 3D end so I try to keep up with it. Work and money kind of dried up for now in that field but I try to keep in practice just in case. I've been a designer, drafter, machinist, millwright, rigger, packaging mechanic, facility mechanic (currently), truck driver, etc.....wherever the money is. I would prefer at least a 1/2" solid plate top. But the top i have kind of fell into my hands so I made do for now. Since horse manure is toxic to money trees these days "use what ya got" is a cardinal rule around here. So far I've got about 5 bucks invested in the table and that was for the paint. Everything else came from the scrap pile. I did trade some welding work for the casters from a farmer I know. Not really a ranch in the true sense. But calling it a ranch differentiates us from the grain farmers. We were out your way in New Mexico over the summer....now them are ranches!!A man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:You have made the best use of available materials I've seen in a while and the price is right. I'll bet you'll be adding ideas and attachment to it forever. It seems ever job has it's own layout and your bench can be made to accommodate them all. My hats off to you. I won't say " WELL DONE" because I know your may never be done building it.
Reply:Like most of my projects this one will probably never really be done. I tried to think of ways to hold and position stuff that I usually have to work on. Finally got tired of working on the ground with makeshift arrangements.I'm a certified "scrap rehabilitation coordinator". People see scrap...I see assemblies. Every so often my wife decides my idea of landscaping the yard isn't so good and we have to take a trailer load to the scrap yard. Can bring tears to a fella I'll tell ya. All the poor souls there in the scrap yard waiting to be "rehabilitated".I appreciate all the kind words and comments.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:"Scrap Rehabilitation Coordinator", I love it and I'm sure that hits home with 90% of the gents on this site. Thats my first thought when I see a derelict piece of machinery or weldment, what else can it be used for or turned into? That is absolutely one of the neatest aspects of welding and makes it so enjoyable and interesting. From one "Coordinator" to another.
