After i built my custom atv trailer about 2 yrs ago (Made a thread on it here) i decided i was sick of finding a brick or somthing to prop it up with. So i decided to make a stand for it. My camera was acting up so i didn't get pics of the whole build. Materials Used:1/8 sch40 pipe1/8 plateWelding setup:Harbor freight 80 amp inverter i converted for tig setup, Gas around 10cfh, 1/16 Er70s-6 filler, 1/16 red tungston, #5 cup, welder maxed out on 80 amps/ pipe beveled where to be welded. NO Foot pedal, all scratch start.pic1- The problem, needs a stand. Im tired of having to find somthing pic2- Pieces laid out for cuttingpic3- My setup. YES im using the Harbor freight 80 amp inverter welder. Works really good for scratch start tig. Holds a nice stable arc. Very good little welder for $$$pic4- Weldpic5- WeldOn to the next post.... Reply:welderShane, I've been looking for a occasional use TIG rig and this may be perfect, thanks for posting up!
Reply:Hey  I got to make one for dad. Thanks for the idea
Reply:Heres the finished product. I decided to weld 2 nuts on to hang on my hooks that i welded on the frame underneath. So this way when in use the stand can be easly hung under-neath the frame and out of the way.Pic1- Nuts welded onPic2- Finished and all painted up Attached ImagesLast edited by welderShane; 09-29-2009 at 05:31 PM.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:I'm also a fan of the inexpensive TIG setup, and of the welds it is capable of. I have a special admiration for those who put together things that aren't necessarily supposed to work. So did that setup cost you about $200 before the tank of argon?
Reply:Can anybody comment on whether or not this hobby TIG would be capable of welding stainless?  Something I dare not attempt on my flux Lincoln...

Reply:Originally Posted by zombie-stompI would like to add to that question, would it do aluminum? Fairly inexperienced in welding myself, especially TIG, but I do understand that AL requires you to back off on the heat in mid-weld, and that this is one of the more difficult aspects of TIG AL. I'd also like to know up to what thickness it is capable of welding in steel and SS. Same as in it's stick welding form, I'd think. This machine is a really cool possibility I didn't think existed. Cheers again Shane.
Reply:Zombie,Thanks. Broccoli is right. This machine will not do alu. Steel and stainless are fine. I havnt' done any stainless with it yet but i hope to real soon. As far as steel wise it maxes out at 80 amps, so for tig i would only go to about 1/8'' thick. Stick you could probably get away with 1/4'' on this machine, with proper bevel/ passes. I have done 16 gauge steel with it without burn-through, altho it is alittle hard with no foot pedal. Its not a bad machine at all. Great for smaller projects. As far as my setup for tig. I would estimate the whole setup for tig (includeing all filler,tungsten,argon/cylinder,regulator and so on) was probably about $175-200. Evything was bought new. I bought a Htp flowmeter for 30.00 plus 2 year warrenty ( so that helps on the price). Also my first htp flowmeter, the guage got stuck, i told htp about it and the they sent a new one out the same day. The new flowmeter has been great since. (Great guys at Htp). Hopw this helpsShaneYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Last pic THis is what i was talking about hanging under the trailer. You can see the hooks. ThanksShane Attached ImagesYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Cool sandpad/stand.  Have the same problem around here.  Lottsa equipment with no good jacks or stands.  Boocoo 4x4 wooden blocks"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I was just curious how you ended up getting the whole setup for $200 including gas and regulator. Harbor Fright shows the welder as costing $150, ( http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91110 ) and then your two links show the plug and tig gun as costing a total of about $50. So did you get the welder used, how much, and what did some gas cost you? (newbie here). Thanks.

Reply:Yea. Im sorry i didn't add in the price for the welder. I got the welder brand new for $120.00 at my local harborfreight store. Its around $200 for the setup for tig NOT including the welder.ShaneYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:This is a great post about th 91110 HF welder, which I want to buy now since it's on sale.  I also want a tig setup but thought I would wait until l can afford it, but your post make it possible to "upgrade" to TIG with very little money. However (and not to knock your great post or your idea), with your total amount invested, you should have just boughthttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=66787orhttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=98233I'm really tempted to buy the 91110 machine today at lunch..... not sure what to do with the 97503 I just bought - return it or just keep it for bigger projects.GaryPs. by the way, how do you like your HF welder? Besides the 80amp limitation, what other cons have you discovered with this unit? can you also post more pics with the tank attached to the unit?Last edited by garyhgaryh; 01-13-2010 at 10:49 AM.

Reply:I bought this welder this afternoon.  It's a puny looking welder, but it's probably going to be the most useful one since it's very portable.
