I am looking to buy (online of course) some 2" x 2" 1/4" A500 steel to be used as a hitch I am building. How close is the A500 2"x2" to actually "hitch receiver tube"?I will be sliding this A500 into a female hitch receiver. Please let me know.thanks.
Reply:will work fine. Most commercial hitches are 3/16" wall (.18"). It's the Female side that causes trouble with receivers. The seam on most tube is in the middle of one side. with receiver tubing it's in the corner.I should point out that building your own hitch is not the best idea. to much liability in it, and if something happens your home owners/car insurance isn't going to cover you. Not knowing your welding skill or you equipment we can't tell weather or not this is even something that should be considered by you. Besides. buying a hitch is far cheaper than building one 95% of the time.Last edited by ThorsHammer; 02-08-2012 at 11:44 AM.There are no problems. There are only solutions.
