This guy I work with told me I should buy a trailer because he wore the springs out in his truck by putting his bobcat in the back all the time. Does that sound right to anyone? I mean it can't weigh more than 500 pounds (if I had to guess)...anyone?
Reply:some trucks are built and rated heavy..some are not intended to haul much at all.
Reply:Truck, could be a light family sized pickup, or an eighteen wheeler.Whatever it is, it should have a manufacturers load rating, which should be a pretty good guide.Cheers,  Tony._________________________________Transmig 310 + Argoshield LightOxy acetyleneOxy propanePrehistoric stick welder_________________________________
Reply:my hobart champion eilite weighs about 600# with gas and oil and woiuld be compareable to the bobcat.  these are some of the lighter machines out there
Reply:I have found that most half ton trucks to be lacking in the truckness dept.  I mean you put 500lbs in the back and they look like they are at max capacity. The old toyota tundras are pathetic

Reply:must have been a small truck like a Toyota or something similar sized.thermal arc mst400, va4000 feeder, lincoln 175 min, victor torches, miller s32p feeder, air arc k4000 for work.
Reply:According to the specs on the Miller site, the Bobcat series (excluding fuel) weighs anywhere from 530 to 700 lbs.  With 12 gallons of fuel, the diesel models would be upwards of 800 lbs.  By the time you add a bottle or two, a passenger or three, and a few tools you're probably awfully close the payload capacity of a half-ton truck.  Depending on how it's optioned, you may exceed the payload capacity by the time you have just the welder and a fat guy behind the wheel.

Reply:My ranger weighs 615, and I have it mounted to one side in my bed, it started sagging on that side quite a bit after 2 months. $80 airbags used on Craigslist, problem solved. 07.5 Ram 250014' PowerMig 210 MP13'Burntables 5x10 CNC Table14' SAE300 HE on a 12' Ram 4500 60 CA 4x4. Reply:I keep almost 1000 lbs of fuel and transfer tank in the back of my '00 F250 4x4 diesel  year round. In the winter there's even more weight in the back for plowing full time ( too much trouble to load unload it). Stock springs lasted 180K for the rears, 215K for the fronts. Even will all that weight, I still had plenty of load rating left based on the builders manual specs for the axle/ spring ratings stock for that year and model..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Originally Posted by BistineauWhat kind of "truck" does he have/had? Not much of a truck if the springs wore out carrying a Bobcat. The shipping weight on a BC is about 800lbs. Big question is, what kind of truck do you have? Most full size 1/2 ton trucks should have no real problem with the weight, especially if you keep it toward the front near the cab. If it were near the tailgate I can see where it might cause more problems, just keep it between the axles. That being said though, mine is on a trailer, but it rarely leaves my yard. I can tow it with my S-10 or carry it in my 3/4 ton, trailer and all. I normally move it with the riding mower(it's a small trailer).
