I've got an old Bernard gun on my miller feeder- just got it on an auction.  It appears that the liner is full of grease and that they coated it with Anti-sieze- at least at the ends.  I've never seen this done before - any thoughts as to why?  I've tried to remove the liner from the rubber hose w/o any luck.  It appears at the gun end, the hose is machine crimped onto a small pipe- I suspect that this is attached to the liner and that maybe the whole thing is one piece?  Anybody have any experience with old Bernard guns?  I'm guessing it would cost as much to replace the line and hose as I paid for the welder and feeder.   ddfarmboy
Reply:No, the gun should come out of that "pipe piece" should be a screw of some sort holding the gun into place. As for the antisieze, sounds more like a hillbilly thing.  There is another allen key holding the liner into the gun itself on both ends.
Reply:I got the head off of the liner, but does the liner sleeve stay with the rubber cover?  Every other welder I've replaced liners in it was just the metal liner that was replaced.  This one appears to be crimped into the rubber at the gun end.  Unless the section of pipe <1/4 inch OD screws off of the rubber piece and lets the liner go free?  I'll try to add pics late tonight when I get home.  Thanks for the help Cruizer
Reply:Ok - so took the gun into the local welding supply place - turns out it is a home built/modified job!!  No parts available.  My darn camera has dead batteries - or I'd get some pics on here
