inverter arc welder

Hello everyone. Yes I am a newbie and i have a few Qustions regarding a inverter type arc welder. I recently tried a miller xmt 304 and  it was great smooth quiet welder. Thjis is on 3/4 plate gussets and 5/8 thick pipe . Unfortunately it has quit energizing the arc any bigger than a candle. Called the miller tech's and was suggested that if the welder has sat for extended periods of time (like this oine) the master switch will go faulty. Anyway back to my Lincoln 250 idealarc. Is it true the inverter welders need to be used frequently for them to perform as required. Also are they really worth it . Sure would like to get this one fixed for my buddy and try again . Reply:Interesting. I've never heard that one before. I'll be curious to see what some of the guys who work on machines regularly think of this. All the XMT's I've run were good machines, but they get run frequently most of the time.However, you may not get a ton of responses on this the way you titled it. Not sure if some of the guys who usually reply to "problem" threads will see this, as there's no mention of an issue in the title..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks DSW I can't believe the only sound you hear is the sound of the arc , fantastically smooth. Building 600 bushel grain wagon running gears utilizing semi- trailer axles and 8x4 x1/4 and 3/8 tubing. I think i will upgrade my lincoln to a invertec. Prefences other than Miller - lincoln - esab? Reply:Did you check you input voltage?  Maybe half of your 220v is dead.  The last time it was ran was it at your place or another location.  Might try power somewhere else.  I have the same welder but never this problem.  Did have the same problem on a Pow-Con one time.Dan
Reply:XMTs are great machines but they do have several known issues, mainly having to do with internal connections. Some are simple fixes, some = RIP.Suggest you post on Millers board, some real experts over there.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
