Has anyone made a collector, or similar ? I want to make my own header collector, 3 into 1. They are expensive to buy. Just not sure where to start with 3 pipes. They are 3, 1-7/8 primaries into a 2-1/2 collector. Thanks,Dave
Reply:I don't recall seeing many threads about collectors on this site. However, there are a ton of them on www.honda-tech.com in the welding and fabrication subforum. Hopefully, I'm not stepping on weldingwebs toes by pointing you to another site... sry in advance if I am. Most of the collectors you will find there are out of sch pipe for turbo manifolds but the idea is pretty much the same. I havent built more than a 2-1 in quite a few yrs. I always worked out the math in theory, marked my pieces out and then took a few stabs at it on pvc tube when I was doing new configurations just to make sure I had it right. There are guys on that site that build them every day so hopefully someone can help you out.Ps. have fun welding where the 3 tubes merge together on that top.Weld that part first. They have a tendancy to pull all over the place if you weld the outside first. Crappy fitup will ruin your day when you are trying to get that inside welded up.Last edited by Rojodiablo; 02-16-2010 at 06:21 PM.Reason: forgot to add GL!
Reply:Thanks, and thats exactly what its for, a turbo collector/cross over pipe.
Reply:dependign on what you are looking to do, sometimes it is easy and more cost (and time) efficient to buy one. check out www.spdexhaust.com. they have a variety of collectors and angles to choose from. weld-on merge collectors, slip-on merges, double slip merges, formed collectors, etc. |
