I understand the difference in the 8VS and the 8RC as far as the VS will work on any welder and the RS only works with ones with the 14 pin plug. Is there much difference in welding with them. I would like to use the 8VS as an outdoor welder with flux core and it only requires a welding lead and ground to work. Does the RC model with the 50 foot RC cable work that much better. I do notice that the amp rating is different for them.  Found  several 8VS models on Ebay and wondering if I should wait and get the RC model.
Reply:I have a 12RC but have never used a VS.  The only thing I want to say is that if you get the 8" model, you're going to be limited to smaller spools and always be paying more per pound of wire.  Unless you're constantly going to be crawling in tight spaces where the bigger suitcase is a problem, I'd pay a few more bucks up front for the added flexibility of larger spools, whether you get the VS or the RC.

Reply:I have only used the VS models.  It was my understanding that the RC model allowed for true gmaw type function even on the smaller wire and thinner metals.  It's only limit is  50 ft from the welder due to the control cable.  but then again this is from the salesman that was trying to upgrade our VS units.
