This is for a pickup truck. How would you weld a stainless exhaust tip to aluminized steel exhaust piping?I have tig and mig machines available.I thought about just slipping it on and using silver solder...I'm not too worried about discoloration on the exhaust tip. Also, I'm not too concerned about the weld area rusting up...so steel filler is fine with me.For Tig or MIG, would a ER70 class material work?

Reply:I'll do that....thanks, zapster.
Reply:Just butt it up (or slip it on) and weld it with any stainless filler you have laying around. There is no need to grind off the aluminized coating, it tig welds just fine and will turn out looking like the pic below. If it's a slip fit with a decent gap I would mig weld it and just hit the weld with high temp paint.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:Cool.  Thanks guys!
Reply:Thanks for yall's help!I put the stainless tips on this weekend.  I was suprised to see how well the 309L filler rod flowed togther with the steel of the exhaust tubing and adapters. I also had some small gaps to fill, and it worked really well.I had to get in some tight spots between the frame and the exhaust tubing, so I wished a had a short back cap for my torch, but i was able to contor myself and head enough to get up in there.  But I ordered some short caps today to have them just in case I get into another tight spot in the future.I'd post some pictures, of the welds, but they're not too pretty, but for me, they're functional, and the overall job turned out just the way I wanted it.
