hey guys we are doing over head fillet welds in school.  Burning 6011's running stringers using the whip and pause technique.  Any tips or suggestions ?  When I pause how long should I pause for?  oh the rods are 1/8"Thanks
Reply:Watch the puddle, it will tell you.  Look at the profile of your bead after you clean off the slag.  Try different methods to see  how they affect the puddle.Where are pictures?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Can't really tell you anything without seeing what you are doing. I seldom ever use 6010 for an overhead fillet. I just prefer 7018 in that position and the properties of 6010 are not well suited for the majority of the work I do.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:With 6010/11 I try to watch the size of tthe puddle to let me know how long to stay in it, and the freezing of it to let me know how long to stay out. The main thing is to do it the same on each whip/pause. I really dont pay attention to how far forward I whip out nbut I do try to pay attention to where I bring the arc back in. I don't really do anything different for overhead than I do flat other than make sure my ears are protected and if I'm sitting down, make sure other vital areas are covered and protected from rolling balls of fire.Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
