Had some extra pipe from my old satellite stand became available. So looked around and said I need to make some stands for my buffer and grinder. Tomorrow I'll finish this one and the one for my bench grinder. Kinda looks like a rocket at the bottom. Attached Images
Reply:SO you haven't fired it up yet then? I'm wondering about the torque and snap when that buffer starts. Maybe you're going to bolt it down? Looks great ho.
Reply:Oh yeah, going to use some 3/8" drop in anchors. I've been using 2 C-clamps to attach it to my welding table. I'm probally going to just plasma cut 4  1/2" holes in the corners, put some washers between the concrete floor and the bottom of the base to plumb the stand. And then a little rewiring next week.
Reply:Looks great! But as Sandy observes..I was gonna type "don't push on it too hard"Same thing but diffrent..Your gonna need to anchor it down.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:nice.Me!

Reply:ender, you are what i call a glorified door bell installer, you know touch two wires together and make the bell go off. loljust kidding............not really!!G3miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:Hey jtrapper,Nice job and it is almost identical to the buffer stand I made in 1970 when I opened my gunsmithing shop. I had a brute Baldor polishing buffer and at 3450rpm, it could walk itself across the floor. I bolted it down securely with 1/2" bolts with concrete loxins. I did it exactly as you did yours. You'll see the dif when you get it anchored....super smooth..... DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Get ready guys, here come my BIG tool stand SECRET.My shop is only 20'X20' so I do not have a lot of room and I try to keep the center of it clear for my welding table. Everything else is against the wall. A lot of my hand tools are on the wall and on a board for hanging wrenches.Anyway, with little room I came up with a stand that works great for me. It is basically a large round base (kind like a dome) and a 3" square tube that comes up to the right height. Very basic. Now for the BIG SECRET----READY?I mounted an electromagnetic door lock on top of the 3" tube. I then mounted a flat plate on the bottom of all of my tools that I need a stand for. Now I can just set the tool on top and turn on the magnet. I can grab the tool and pick up the entire stand. The magnet has 1500 pounds of pull. I placed edges around the plate to prevent twisting. To change tools, just turn off the magnet, remove the tool and put on a new one. Turn on the magnet and get to work. There are many tools I have mounted on plates.Buffer like yoursGrinder, similar to your bufferSmall vise for holding knives when working on them.Small welding table that also holds my overhead projector that I use to project small computer drawings to make them life size for making templates.Etching acid station for etching knives.Motor mount for holding motors (not engines) when testing them.Metal bowl for holding screws, etc.My small propane torpedo heaterSo, hit ebay, buy a magnetic lock and make yourself a stand that is versatile.Or Not!!!!!!There my great big secret is out. Hope someone else can use the idea.
Reply:Here's a few pics of the progress. The other piece of pipe I had was galvanized, yuck! What a mess it makes, either grind it all off, or deal with the knarly smoke and splatter. I chose to just burn it . The splatter came off easy enough. Sandy, I got a good laugh, I guess I should have been clear about my intent. I'm still smiling about that one. I'll get around this weekend, to mounting them to the floor. I would have liked to have had the Baldor, but dam that was seven times the cost of the craftsman. Attached Images
Reply:i like them both great job
Reply:Finally got them finished. Guess wiring will be done later. Attached Images
Reply:Going to move the RO unit under cabinet, and run additional outlets behind the stands. And then later have to build a shrowd for the buffing wheels. Try to minimize splatter from wheels. Post pictures later.
Reply:Well, finally got around to finishing the shrouds. That rouge sure fly's around if not covered. Aluminum was more abundant then my steel sheet sooo. I went w/alum. Attached ImagesGood judgement comes from experience.Experience comes from bad judgement.

Reply:You might try this ebay store ~reliabletools~ for many items you want, like Baldor grinders/buffers etc.  They have so much variety and kool stuff I often DON"T go look there for fear of destroying my bank account They ship, all the goods I've bought are top notch lightly used gear. This is my humble grinder stand, purchased at auction sold the paint shaker off it and so it was ~FREE~, added two holes and bolted the Baldor down.  I do really like the shape and size of yours, and the skill level is keen.  I once cast in brass end cover for a Baldor grinder because it was missing one... looked way kool when polished upI'm still "bufferless also" they are spendy!enjoy, Attached ImagesLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
