need help with arc welding

I am currently doing vertical up with seventy eighteen 1/4 inch plate 1/8 space open no backing bar. i cannot get my root pass to be perfectly done. i cannot get the root pass to look decent on the back  can someone help me. how do u do vertical weld  and horizontal weld, overhead without backing plate. are there any videos online.COMPLETE PENETRATION OPEN BUTTLast edited by damianmurdock; 03-13-2012 at 11:10 AM.
