Thanks for all of the great help, just thought I would post some of my improvement after practicing a little. These are ALL with a 75/25 mix gas still, because I want to use the rest of this to not let it go to waste. Anyway, here are a few more pictures of what I did to practice. I didn't use any filler on most of these, and the ones that I did use filler, well.. those are the ugly ones lol... I still don't know how to lay a nice bead while adding filler to the whole mess. I guess it just takes practice. PLEASE critique these with any advice at all! thanks a bunch!!!! BTW.. these were done on 1/4inch mild steel.
Reply:Correct me if I'm wrong, but even after your last thread where multiple people told you very explicitly that GTAW (TIG) with a 75/25 Ar/Co2 mix simply doesn't work, you continue to use it and hope to get better?I think it would be less of a waste to return a mostly full bottle of the wrong gas than to continue destroying tungstens and wasting time by continuing to use it.P.S. The pictures are very nice (focus wise etc.), however it would be best to post them a little smaller as they break the margins on the forum and make it difficult to read the text in your post.Visit Tensaiteki.com

Reply:Mugen112,As a hobby weldor myself I plead with you to listen to those that have offered you sound advice and loose the 75/25 gas. You will NEVER get a good bead with it and are wasting your time. You've requested their critique and they have given it - twice. I can sympathize with your concern regarding having to go get another bottle of gas but it's not only the right thing but the only thing to do.As for your photos like Tensaiteki has stated they show excellent detail but you need to re-size them as Craig indicated prior to posting to prevent cutting off your verbiage. You can do so with your MS Office Picture Manager under the 'Picture' pull-down menu, click on 'Resize', select 600x800 and save the change. Now go get some 100% Argon and keep practicing.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Completely useless? You'll at least get to know how it's NOT supposed to look and feel.I can't speak for him but I suspect the "continue destroying tungstens" Tensaiteki is referring to is contamination due to the incorrect shielding gas which isn't saving you anything either and probably not allowing the arc to work properly(?). Bottom line, some times things just 'have to be' in order for it to work right and this is one of those times. Listen to the pros and veterans here and you'll go alot further alot faster.Did you get the photo size thing figured out OK?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
