Reply:Now hold on a sec....if you double the teeth, won't it act like the plate is still there?  You might try it as is first and see how it goes.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Try it like that,    I have been cleaning up  hay piles with my excavator and clamp on  grub rake.            rake it a bit lossens it and it will aerate and dry,     One hay pile Im useing my friends brush rake on his dozer to do this.   Rake on day and pile the rakings and the next day i can come get the rest alot easier.       With that wide of a tooth  Id use the existing spacing of the teeth. More teeth the more resistance youll have to pull.       Im gonna have to buld a manure tine bucket pretty soon to gather feeder ring piles and scrapings for my skid steer loader.    Im building a large compost pile and have  been buyin piles from local cattle men that dont spread,     The other day I was trying to load a pile and my 50 horse loader  would just  bind up going into the hay and manure.      I had to go home and get the excavator and that cuts into my savings and other overhead.
Reply:Yes, try it before adding anymore tines. If you feel the need to add more maybe they should be spaced in the middle of what is there but set back 10-12 inches and a few inches higher than the ones there now. One set to plow it open and the other to act as the rake.Last edited by lars66; 03-18-2010 at 10:48 AM.
Reply:Sam, I have two rakes.  One with 3 " between teeth and one with 6" between teeth/tines.The rake with 6" is quite useless on manure but great for clearing land and pulling stumps. For the gathering and recycling of used horse feed the 3" is better.   I think with the tines so far apart you will loose a lot of your recycled bovine feed. Especially if it is fresh from the factory!
Reply:3" spacing would be great, but not doable at this point.Filling the gap, by adding tines between the existing tines brings me to about 5" clear space between tines, slightly less where the chisel tooth is.The plate has all been removed, and welds scarfed out.I don't even feel it's worth it to see how it behaves at this point.  It'll just dig nice neat little furrows in the gooI feed pretty coarse hay with long stems, at reduced spacing it just might pull it, but at the very least, it'll break it loose to the point I can get it with a regular blade. Reply:How about just cutting some 3/8" or 1/2" plate to make the new teeth Samm. that's pretty much what they do for root rakes on Bobcats. Reply:Wouldn't take long to try the DSW idea.
