Reply:Hello Freehand,                      Nice work my friend,  how about a "how to" posting,  I have made some in brass quite a while ago, by marking out the design and then chiseling the background away in a multi directional frosted sort of way.then silver soldered the belt loop on similar to yours,Sure there will be lots of interest in this thread,Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.
Reply:Those are cool. I second Gordon on a tutorial. I don't want to make one but I am always interested in learning new things.

Reply:Regarding the Silver Solder...  Do you mean Paste, Snippets or Stick brazing with TIG or TORCH ?I've used some EASY solder on some of mine, but I find that when I try to bend them with HEAT or in a PRESS, they tend to 'disassemble' and it's VERY ANNOYING.  Would HARD SOLDER Help or should I braze opposing edges (Top, Bottom, Sides.) with with Silver Solder stick instead ?Cheers,/Jman...Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....

Reply:It is very helpful to have an upright floor model bandsaw with a miter gauge.buffing wheels and bench grinders are a must.G3Now lets see some Christmas present belt buckles.miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:Nice work!My wife's grandpa gave me a box of old stainless to play with, included were a bunch of those style buckles(both the cut pipe and the twisted rod) in various stages of development!   He used to make them back in the day too.  Do you use a drill motor to twist the rod?   I make a lot of buckles, but not really in that style.   The twisted rod trick could come in handy for other projects though lol.browndogwelding.com@welderassassinMy Blog on The Fabricatorfacebook.com/BrownDogWelding
Reply:I found that the drill on one end and a vise on the other end works great, need a variable speed drill and go slow.G3miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:Hi Jman,            With regard to the silver solder on the brass buckles. this was used to attach the loop to hold the fixed end of the belt and the curved turned peg that fits into the belt holes,The method I used was to clean the rear of the buckle and mark positions for the fixings, Grip the buckle lightly in the vise face downthen start to heat with a torch from below, apply a little flux to the marked positions then while continuing to heat from below keep touching the buckle with your silver solder rod untill you can leave a small flat  amount of melted rod on the brass, clean your parts to be fixed, and apply flux then position them on top of the previously soldered spots. finally heat with torch from below untill the spots remelt and flow onto the fixings, Lovely neat strong job, It takes longer to write about it than do it. hope this helps somewhat,  Regards  Gordon.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:Hello Jman,                  As regards the loop, I have made both fixed and pivoted,I used 1/8" brass rod, for the belt attachment I just used a couple of small brass nuts that were a snug fit on the rod for the pivots, the peg for the belt holes was made from a 1/4" brass bolt, I sawed the head to about half its original thickness then put the thread into my elec drill leaving about 3/4" sticking out, used a file to remove threads, and taper a little leaving a small ball on the end, silver soldered as described in the previous posting and when cool bent the peg slighly to hook securley into the belt.It was easier and quicker to use the drill than bother using the lathe.Last edited by gordon stephenson; 12-12-2009 at 01:04 PM.Reason: Typing errorsLincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:Neat stuff. I got these cap fittings much like the little brass flare fittings only 2 1/2" and SS. They've been laying around for years but just couldn't throw them away cuz they looked neat. Reply:I got this far and not sure how or what to do nextShould I leave the backing plate in?(weighs over a lb already)I have some small diameter(5/16") SS tubing and 1/4" brazing rod to fill in the spaces but wasn't sure of the best way to connect them and attach them to the backing plate or the 'frame' if not using the backing plate.Thanks!HobbyistSS/Aluminum cartATD 130 MIGEverlast 225 TIGSteel cartEverlast PP50 plasma cutterHarbor Freight 130 TIG/90 ArcHarbor Freight 100 Flux coreOxy/Acet
