This might sound stupid but I was using my Tig for the first time this past weekend with .040 tungsten and .040 stainless filler rod. Because occasionally I forgot to turn on the gas from the torch I would melt the tungsten tip. Now I'm looking at some short rods and I can't tell which is filler rod and which is tungsten. Since I ground both ends of the tungsten and no longer have the red band on it I can't tell which is which. Is there a way to tell and what would happen if by accident I put a filler rod in the tourch instead of tungsten would it just melt itself to the collet? Thanks,
Reply:The heavier (and not bendable) one will be tungsten.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Check em with a file. If the file cuts it its filler.
Reply:Thank you.
Reply:I keep a red and green Sharpie perm marker in my tig box, and I color the middle of the tungsten."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man" |
