Hello, I am pondering the idea of building a hitch mounted hauler for my dirt bike. I know that I can buy one and they are not too awful expensive....but what fun is that!!! I love to weld so I thought I would build one to support a 250 pound dirt bike. I have looked at pictures of several of them but I was wondering if anyone on here have built one and what type of material did you use? Any help or info will be greatly appreciated!!!
Reply:I'd simply use some 2x2 1/4" thick square tubing that slid into the receiver, with a chunk of 6" C channel, 1/4" thickness, long enough to fit the bike behind the truck. Then brace it where you need to, add your strap mounts and what not, plus a stand in the front to hold the front wheel to keep it from tipping over, make a folding ramp out of the same C channel. Paint it. Ad some reflective DOT tape on it, and some lights if the bike blocks your pickup's lights, and you're done. That's my quick and nasty version... If I had a program like Sketchup I'd draw it, but I don't :PMiller Performance AD Helmet - Camo Edition Soon to have: Jackson HSL 100 - Forest Digi CamoMiller Thunderbolt AC/DC((Currently at welding school))
Reply:There's been a couple of these done here. There's at least one other one similar to DesertRider33's in the 2nd link, but I can't find it tonight for some reason.www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=79231www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=36222.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
