Photos of my latest project: a 3/16" aluminum skid plate for my Kawasaki KLR650. The bike comes with a flimsy plastic skid plate so I designed this to replace it. First three are the construction: Attached ImagesLincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.

Reply:Nice work, I like the design. Would be behoove you to round off those corners? I don't ride dirt bikes but I thought you put your feet down in some turns, looks like those corners could be a good 'pants catcher'.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:Thanks- You're right about the corners and I was considering rounding them to match the radius of the air-holes. But for now, I left the corners as-is for a couple of reasons: none of my appendages dangle in those areas, so there is little safety concern (at least while I and the bike are upright). But the main reason is that I'm thinking of adding some side protection for the water pump and engine block (basically sides welded onto the front and bottom of the skid-plate). However I can't add sides until I first install the crash bars. Because of how I'll be mounting the crash bars, I need to design the sides to accomodate them. After that, I'll re-examine the angles for esthetics. Reply:At first I was like "Motorcycles shouldn't need skid plates" thinking you were talking about a sportbike, but duh, it's for a dirtbike hah.
Reply:Looks great, good job
