Can you please tell me what would be the correct amp settings to weld a 6" pipe 1/4 using Oerlikon 6013 rods (DC+) on the 5G position Thanks
Reply:You just have to mess around.  But it depends on a lot of things.  If you like to go fast,  then set it higher,  if you want to go slow,  turn it down alittle bit.  I only have experience with 6010,  but I'm sure they aren't too much different,  cept for the flux.  Give or take 10 amps,  if say around 65 to 75 for 3/32, and around 90 to 100 for 1/8,  but like I say,  practice and you will know.
Reply:the correct settings for 6013 in my shop would be 0 amps.  6013 is almost a junk rod.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I agree with you. I normaly work with 7018 but in this work location, these are the only ones available.
Reply:Use 125-130 amps. You want CJP.Check a test piece before proceding.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:I agree with this.  One application I have found a 6013 really great on is certain cast steels.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:But he's not working on cast steels, he's working on pipe, and these aren't a pipe rod.    So tell the boss to go get some proper pipe rods if he wants the job done right.I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:While 6013 is not my 1 st choice but  check some of Pipefitter's work. His work has made me give 6013 another chance. Try DC- for me about 100-115 amps for 1/8 rod. Your welder and style may call for a little differt amperage. Im not a pipe welder but I don't think 6013 would be used on anything that has to be done to code.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:6013 is in very common use on pipe in the UK, and other countries as well.JTMcC
Reply:lads on another board i visit i got a private message ,this was to remind me i was welding with what was probably the easiest rod there is to use, and i should try a mans rod, go figure.  anyhow i hold a couple of codes here in the uk 6013.. jt  you stopped this one dead  pipefitter

Reply:matt80 i think you got it right--the flux in 7018 has a lot of iron powder which makes  it necessssary to use more heat than a 6010 rod of the same diameter.
