My Miller BWE does not darken quick enough with tig.It works fine with the mig.The clear protective shield is clean. The senors all four are clear. Why does it work fine with the mig and not the tig.Has anyone had this problem and how did you correct it.My brother has an old Hobart mask and it works fine with both.
Reply:Got the same hood. Mine works fine with tig (down to about 10A for sure).Just got to get it "dialed in" correctly. For low amp tig work, I'll hold my hat up to an incandescent lamp to adjust the sensitivity. Seems to work fine. For that low amp work, I generally set mine at a shade 9.I've used anywhere between a 9-11 shade, depending on the amps.Try a setting (sensitivity) of about 9:30 (as a clock). This will be slightly below the little mark shown at about 10:00 o'clock.Unless there is something wrong with your hood, I think you'll find that the BWE is a "great" tig helmet.Oh, and BTW. Try to remember to push the "reset" button prior to starting a tig session. If my hood hasn't been used for a while, I'll tend to get a slight "flash" when just starting to weld. After going back and reading your post again, I think you're going to have to play with your response time settings a little also. Once set, don't think you'll have to mess with them again.Last edited by SundownIII; 12-31-2008 at 11:35 AM.Reason: AdditionSyncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc. |
