My Lincoln 175 will operate in the TIG mode using a stick electrode cable. It works great for welding thin metal using a 1/16th rod. The arc starts without touching the metal and stays lit even when the current is barely on. I pulse the current with the foot peddle to prevent blowing though the metal. The weld doesn't look as pretty as TIG but it seems to solve the problem of using a stick on thinner material.
